In 2004, the four founding directors resigned from their full-time positions in senior management at one of Scotland’s largest Further Education colleges to start up ‘The Studio Art School’. Their aim was to widen access to tertiary education by providing opportunities for non-standard learners to study art and design courses entirely online.
Following an approach from the University of Hertfordshire to develop a number of their degree courses in design for online delivery, The Studio Art School became ‘The Interactive Design Institute’ in 2008. IDI now provide undergraduate and postgraduate courses in art and design online to over 640 students studying from over 70 countries worldwide.
