BA (Hons) Graphic Design
"My interest in graphic design is focused on book design. For my Final Major Project, I created covers for the classic books 'Frankenstein', 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' and 'Jekyll and Hyde'. These covers were inspired by double exposure photographs, which I felt was a good way to show the conflict that these characters have with their identity.
"The 'Don Quixote' and 'Cyrano de Bergerac' covers are also part of a set, and were inspired by the Game of Thrones covers.
"I have also created a cover for 'Oranges are Not the Only Fruit', a coming of age story about a young woman with a religiously overbearing mother, coming to terms with her sexuality. Throughout the novel, her mother gives her oranges to eat - I found this to symbolise opposition to the notion of 'there are plenty more fish in the sea'. I created a surreal cover, to convey the message of the overbearing mother and the surrealness of the society that the girl is living in."
