IDI Graduation 2016

Graduation Day here at IDI is always a special occasion, and this year’s ceremony was no different. Once again, we welcomed our latest crop of graduates to Edinburgh Castle for a day of celebration.

We had graduating students travelling from as far afield as Poland, Oman, Dubai, Germany, Greece, Bahrain, Vietnam, South Africa and many more!

The courtyards and interior of Edinburgh Castle’s Queen Ann Room provided an idyllic backdrop for this year’s graduation ceremony

And with many friends and family there for support, as well as a selection of IDI staff, tutors and guest speakers, it proved to be a very busy and eventful day for all involved…

A DAY OF CELEBRATION

The option to peruse the submissions for the 2016 Graduate Degree Show proved popular with many of the graduates and guests

As well as celebrating the graduation day as a whole, we were also able to highlight the exceptional work produced by a host of our graduates for this year’s Graduate Degree Show.

Our set-up within Edinburgh Castle’s Queen Ann Room included an interactive display from which graduates and guests could view all of the submitted Degree Show artwork prior to the ceremony.

With the ceremony nearing and the Queen Ann Room rapidly filling up, our graduates gathered to receive their respective BA (Hons) degrees and MA awards in subjects including Graphic Design, Photography, Illustration and Interior Architecture and Design, among others.

As always, an added bonus of this already great occasion was the graduates getting the chance to meet each other in person, after having worked together and supported each other throughout their studies via the IDI study site and online forums.

IDI Director Michael Stewart addresses the graduates at the outset of the ceremony

Following the piped procession of the graduates, the ceremony commenced – with speakers including Interactive Design Institute directors Michael Stewart and John Watson, and chairman Nigel Bannister.

The graduates then proceeded to receive their individual commendations from Judy Glasman, Dean of the School of Creative Arts at University of Hertfordshire, who provided some inspiring closing remarks.

And with that, our freshly commended graduates were free to celebrate and socialise in the gorgeous surroundings of Edinburgh Castle and, later, the National Galleries of Scotland!

The evening ceilidh event within the National Galleries capped off a highly memorable and enjoyable day for all of our graduates, guests and staff.

We hope that all of our new graduates can now enjoy some time to relax and reflect on their fantastic achievements, before taking the next, exciting steps in their creative careers!
