COVID-19 update: All online teaching and learning is proceeding as normal

Gillian has always been interested in art and design and she was excited by the opportunity that studying with IDI offered her, to combine degree level study with her full-time job as a Learning Mentor. Now well on her way to achieving a degree, Gillian is looking forward to a bright future in the creative industries.

Gillian Davies is a student on the BA (Hons) Illustration course from the University of Hertfordshire, taught 100% online by IDI.

It was the flexibility of studying online that first drew Gillian to IDI:

“I chose to study online so that I was able to continue working full time, to finance my studies. I also found that by studying online I was able to study at my own pace and not have to spend time travelling to a college or university, enabling me to organise my time better.”

After undertaking some research into her options, Gillian was impressed by the global appeal of the illustration course:

“After researching online courses, I found that IDI had a lot of students currently studying with them which told me that not only was it a popular institute, but an institute that took its time to work with people all round the world.”

Since enrolling, Gillian has found that IDI has lived up to its global reputation and the quality of the online study experience IDI delivers is helping her to achieve her ambitions:

“I have found the mode of study very straight forward and easy. If there is anything you are not sure of your tutor is always there to help. It is also so helpful getting tips and feedback from your tutor as you work your way through each module and activity.

“I hope that the time I spend studying will allow me to develop the skills I need to go on become an illustrator or designer. The time I am spending studying is allowing me to gain confidence and skills that will help me to achieve this.”

Gillian already has plans ahead of graduating from the course and dreams one day of becoming a top illustrator:

“I would like to spend a summer on the Disney studios internship working in the illustration and design environment, gaining more skills and an insight into the industry.

“Further into the future I would like to work for a company that would allow me to use all my new skills creating illustrations for others. I may also look into teaching art.”

As far as studying with IDI is concerned, Gillian says she would recommend it to anyone who is ready to commit:

“If it’s something you really want to do, do it. I am glad I did.”
