My name is Harry Potts. I am photography tutor at The Manchester College and a former press photographer. My main creative passion is people-centric documentary photography.

My Postgraduate Major Project entitled, “The Big Front Room” – The Manchester Apollo, a Year in Pictures, is a collection of images investigating the relationship between the theatre, the fans and its visiting artists. The 80-year-old theatre building and its incredible musical heritage has always fascinated me ever since my first visit in 1978.

Over a twelve-month period, I have recorded to camera the interior and exterior of the classic Art Deco theatre, photographing scores of shows and several performers backstage. Every opportunity was taken to turn the camera on the fans to document their unique collective visual identity and physical interactions with their heroes.

The final collection of images will be published in a photo-book, which will attempt to tell the visual story of why the Apollo remains the city’s favourite entertainment venue.
