“My main design interests lie in cover design, and I love to reflect a feeling of intrigue within my designs. My final major project was a re-design for the relaunch of The Secret Garden, by Frances Burnett. I approached the design from a different angle, darker than many of the softer covers that are around today, providing a more unisex design to maximise the potential audience, whilst still remaining true to the essence of the story. The main elements were carved using gold and copper scrapper board, photographed and manipulated digitally.
“The designs for Carrie’s War were based on the negative space directed by tree branches forming a skull – achieved by creating and photographing a 3D shadow theatre. My design for ‘The Ballroom’ came from an idea to change the form of the book into an old dance card, from the era in which the story is set.”
