An archive collection and the hidden stories it contains can often be the starting point for my work. I think it is important that we look back and consider the past from today’s perspective.

This has led me to look at the lives of people whose stories have been suppressed in some way, to include women, workers and mental health patients. I want to encourage my audience to reflect on these stories and on their own relationship to them.

For my final major project, I have looked at the lives of Scottish fisherwomen, in relation to this year being the centenary of the first women gaining the right to vote. A symbol of strength, they were an integral part of the fishing industry and formed an equal partnership with their male counterparts.

I enjoy the flexibility of using different media, most recently working with photography, digital collage, projection and video.
