“‘Passions’ is an interpretation of the environmental portrait, using contemporary photographic practices influenced by traditional portrait approaches that acknowledges the power of the portrait as a documentary text. Based around people and their passions, it is not a project that sets out to define individual identities, but aims to reveal a segment of each subject’s identity through the passions they engage in.

“With a pictorialist, modernist approach, it is a project that is aimed at commercial commissioners whilst also appealing to more general audiences through its documentary narrative. The methodology for this project resulted in a series of constructed images where each portrait was broken down into two parts: studio and location. Each subject was photographed in a studio environment and composited with an environmental image. The project also examines the notion that the portrait by nature is a construction.”
