“We were briefed with challenging our notion of the term ‘gallery’ as a container for art.

“I chose to focus my attention on creating a contemporary photography gallery in my local area of Tottenham, North London. My choice for the site was an old Middlesex University campus which had been subsequently converted into an office and restaurant space. The challenges that faced me not only stemmed from the eccentric architecture of the site itself, but the sheer scale and detail the site would require.

“I feel the design not only brings a fresh and contemporary styling to its architecture, but promotes a new step up in the area’s quality. The gallery’s minimal design looks to improve on many lacking aspects of the original design, whilst creating as minimal an impact on the site as possible. I feel I was successful in completing a gallery that would be coherent and adaptable for years to come.”
